Governance of Urban Water Supply This module provides guidelines for projecting a water supply system. In particular, it provides an initial introduction of the whole system, a description of hydraulics equations necessary to understand the network behavior and an illustration of non-technical aspects related to the water supply system design. Finally, each part of the water supply system is analysed. Below the single units of the module:
Governance principles in Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM)
General framework
Principles of hydraulics
Water demands, pumps, costs
Water collection
Water transmission lines
Tanks and reservoirs
Distribution networks
Introduction to EPANET
Maintenance and survey of water supply system
Urban Drainage This module tackle the specific challenges of urban water drainage, including contamination issues, influences of urban planning, soil exploitation and environmental quality standards. Participants are expected to learn principles and tools for assessing pollution level, comparing treatment solutions and addressing drainage problems. The module is divided into 5 units:
Urban drainage management systems
Features of urban storm water
Best management practices
Urban flood risk management
Maintenance and monitoring
Wastewater Treatment This module provides technical elements concerning integrated water services, treatment and reuse of water in industrial, agricultural and domestic purposes, with particular reference to urban areas, as well as an introduction to the methods for the management and start-up of wastewater plants and technical and practical tools for design, management and maintenance of plants for wastewater treatment and water reuse . The module includes the following units:
Features of the municipal wastewater
Wastewater treatment plants: physical operations
Wastewater treatment plants: biological treatment
The management of wastewater treatment plants
Sludge formation and management in treatment plants
Reuse of treated wastewater, water saving
Compatibility criteria and planning of treatment plants
