S.M.A.R.T. Integrated Intervention on ‘Sanitation Marketing, Agriculture, Rural Development and Transformation’ in Gambella Region (ongoing)
SMART- Integrated Intervention on ‘Sanitation Marketing, Agriculture, Rural Development and Transformation’ in Gambella Region works to enhance better living conditions and resilience of communities and villages in Gambella Region using community-led approach. By increasing access to basic sanitation, better knowledge of agriculture, awareness on hygiene and sanitation practices, S.M.A.R.T. contributes to the improvement of health and general wellbeing of communities in six localities of Gambella. The project is promoted by AMREF, co-funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and implemented in partnership with VIS-Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo, Salesians of Don Bosco, Hydroaid, Museke Foundation, Metropolitan City of Turin and Polytechnic of Turin.
Water Resources Development Fund (ongoing)
As follow up of the 2012 WATSAM Project and consolidated in the following period through training and capacity development activities financed by ATO3 Torinese and Città Metropolitana di Torino ("A Focus in Ethiopia" project, in April 2017 it was signed a contract between Hydroaid and the Water Resources Development Fund (WRDF), the government body that evaluates the projects presented by local Town Water Utilities regarding water infrastructures on the national territory.The WRDF also has the task of accompanying water supply projects in the implementation phase and provide support in the development phase of the management and financial system of local water service companies.
The contract signed with Hydroaid provides for the launch of a long-term training program for the fund managers. The program, which involved members and operators from Turin and Piedmont, has proposed a two-step training program so far:
a first phase on the job, dedicated to the technical and economic aspects of the design that took place in July 2016 at the offices of the Fund of Addis Ababa.
a second phase of experience sharing, which brought to Turin in October 2017 the Fund's officials and technicians for a theoretical in-depth session, technical visits to the plants with a thematic focus on regulatory, regulatory and financial assessment aspects
A third phase of the program is being finalized.

WATSAM (2012-2015)
WATSAM, a project financed by the European Union, whose main objective was the strengthening of local institutions through the development of governance and sustainable management of water resources and sanitation of the city of Arba Minch in Ethiopia.

The WATSAM project provided a series of activities and actions aimed at strengthening the capacity of technicians and public officials to ensure a more efficient management of public water resources, affecting the different aspects of water management: planning, regulation and administrative-financial aspects of the wate rservice, sanitation, integrated management of water resources, hydraulic modeling, GIS, water quality.
