Our vision
Water has a fundamental and growing importance for human well-being and for the environment, it's the main source of life and development, an individual and global right. The protection and correct use of this shared resource are the elements at the basis of any sustainable development program that ensures food security, health and economic growth. These elements, however, are effective only if combined with a culture of common goods and with technical and political skills in the management of the water cycle challenges. This said, this topic is not limited to politics, environment and economy. Among the primary and fundamental rights of men and women on the planet, water rights are the core of a positive system of values that is fair and respectful of the environment, while being able to regulate the co-existence of local communities and the relations among countries. Similarly, energy policies have an inpact on development processes as well as on the state of natural resources, raising concerns over growing demands that are challenging to meet with regard to the availability of sources and infrastructures. The ultimate goal is a green economy where wealth and employment are directed by public and private investments reducing greenhouse gases emissions and pollution, increasing energy efficiency and decreasing the unsustainable exploitation of resources that lead to the loss of biodiversity and the degradation of precious ecosystems. The nexus between water issues and renewable energy sources is one of the greatest challenges we face today. Hydroaid promotes training as a strategic tool for the realization of a medium-long term vision, in all countries and for all age groups, with a special attention young generations. Upon these beliefs is the important opportunity for testing synergies and alliances between public water utilities, research centers and Universities, local institutions and association, within a modern international cooperation that bridges solidarity with the development of best practices, the exchange of experiences, and the dissemination of knowledge, thus activating actual improvements and innovations in the poorest areas of the planet.

Our history
Hydroaid is a non profit Association providing vocational training in the field of water resource management for developing and emerging countries worldwide. Established in 2001 in Turin, Italy, Hydroaid works with the objectives of transferring knowledge, strengthening capacity development skills and fostering sustainable development for managers and technicians operating in public institutions at local and national level. Since 2011 Hydroaid is in special consultative status with UN ECOSOC, the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Council, and actively contributes to the post-2015 international cooperation dialogue. |

The main activity of Hydroaid is training and its goal is to provide public operators in the nebeficiary countries with a free International School dedicated to the management of water resources. In 15 years of activity Hydroaid has delivered training to hundreds of managers and technicians employed in public utilities and services in developing and emerging countries, supporting traditional structural actions (infrastructures and equipment transfert) with activities of professional training, water governance reinforcement and consolidation of policies for the conservation of natural resources. Training activities used to be a secondary element for the realization of water works, but they do represent an added value - often indispensable - for the development and realization of goals for planning and organizing local and national water services in the target areas.
Our mission
Hydroaid contributes to the reinforcement of effective, integrated and sustainable public systems for water resources management in developing and emerging countries through training and capacity building activities in areas characterized by severe environmental and climate vulnerabilities.
Hydroaid strives to support public policies for the sustainable management of water resources to conserve healthy environmental conditions and improve the life quality standards and the dignity of human beings by promoting social solidarity mechanisms for the safeguard of the right of access to safe drinking water.
Lastly, Hydroaid promotes activities of information, awareness raising and environmental education for the dissemination of a water culture among youths, in close collaboration with local schools, training centers and institutions.

With its work of training, supporting, facilitating and connecting, Hydroaid aims to reinforce a shared vision of water resources inspired to integration and sustainability, for the improvement of living and environmental conditions worldwide.
Training is the main activity of Hydroaid: free management school intended to train experts in the beneficiary countries who will then implement and improve their local water management systems. Strategy The training of Hydroaid is carried out through a combination of didactic techniques chosen according to the criteria of flexibility, adaptation and effectiveness. Among these are on-site training and e-Learning: combined, they allowed to reach a broad number of beneficiaries in over 70 countries and to successfully meet their specific needs.

Today the network of former participants of Hydroaid is composed of more than 1500 professionals worldwide: about 89% of them work in the public sector, 11% are student and 3% is employed in private companies. Hydroaid and its Board of Administration rely on its Steering Committee and on a team of sound scientific and technical background for all its activities, on the support of its Members and Donors, as well as on a specialised Scientific Committee. |
